St. Jude offers cross country for students in 5th-8th grades. This program takes place in the fall and is designed to introduce students to long distance running. Conditioning is a major goal for these students and striving to improve their best personal time. This sport requires self-discipline and motivation. The students compete with other schools in meets hosted by area high schools. Cross Country athletes will compete in two-mile races.
Cross Country may begin practice during the summer for students returning to the program and new recruits may join at the beginning of the school year. Practice is held at Highland Road Park and occasionally at the LSU Lakes. Practice is three–four days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday with a few Saturday or Sunday practices. The athletes are encouraged to make as many practices as possible each week.
